Egypt. The wholesale potato production began after the First World War. The British colonial authorities supported the potato manufacturing to afford the military supplies. After the war the potato expanse met difficulties due to the low quality of imported seeds & local farmers’ lack of experience in potato cultivating. The things changed in 1961, when the irrigative production concentrated in the Delta went up on 5% annually. Between 1990 & 2007 the annual output increased from 1,6 to 2,6 million tons making the Egypt the main potato producer in Africa. The key table exporting varieties are Spunta, Nicola, Diamont, Mondial.
