Kiwi

Kiwi NEW

Kiwi is a commonly used name for the fruits of the actinidia plant. This tree-like vine ("Chinese gooseberry") has been known in China since the XII century. But kiwi owes its popularity to New Zealand. Wild actinidia was brought there at the beginning of the XX century for the first commercial plantings. It was in New Zealand that we managed to bring out a cultivated plant – with large fruits and the best taste qualities.
The name "kiwi" appeared even later – in the 1960s. So the fruit was named by breeder Allison for their external similarity to the body of the kiwi bird, which is a symbol of New Zealand.
Kiwi contains a record amount of vitamin C (in 100 grams of pulp – 2.5 times more than the daily norm!), and its fruits are rich in potassium, magnesium and folic acid.
Today kiwi is grown in many countries with a subtropical climate, especially widely – in Italy, New Zealand, Iran, Chile, Greece. These countries are the main exporters of kiwi in the world market. As for the volume of production, more than 50% of all grown kiwis are in China. This country also retains leadership in fruit consumption.
In Russia, there are only experienced kiwi plantations on the Black Sea coast and in the south of Dagestan, which, of course, do not yield on an industrial scale. According to RBC, from 2016 to 2020, kiwi imports to Russia grew steadily, and in 2020 amounted to 83 thousand tons. According to AB-Center, in 2020, Russia ranked 6th in the world in terms of kiwi imports. The main importers are Iran, Chile and China.
The Royal Fresh company supplies kiwi of the popular Hayward variety from Iran. This variety has a delicate taste, its flesh is light green, juicy and fragrant. The delivery season is from October to May.
