Egyptian strawberry season 2019-2020: new export regulations are expected.

The new strawberry season in Egypt will start nearly in a month & expected to be more successful than the previous one. Mainly due to the new export regulations applied by the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture. Only assessed producers will be allowed to export strawberry to the global market.
Farms have to get the assessment before exporting. These regulations were set by Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and the Export Council for Agricultural Crops. The head & founder of All Fresh Egypt Reda Ezz Eldin thinks the regulations will impact positively on the season. He announced the objective of these activities was to create a monitoring system of agrochemical residues in exporting strawberries, soil & water. New regulations will act for two next seasons. They got a positive feedback from the clients encouraging other buyers to import strawberries from Egypt, he said.
It doesn’t mean they’ll meet no issues. So, the transporting gets more expensive day by day, says Eldin. “The every year rising airfreight cost is the major challenge for Egypt’s strawberry export. That in turn, gives rise to berries’ prices. To compare, last year average price for the 2,5 kilo box’s air shipment amounted 5 USD. This year it will cost more”.
All Fresh Egypt is going to export 1500 tons of fresh strawberry this season, lasting since early November till mid-March. Eldin concluded that their preferable export destinations in Europe are Great Britain, Germany & Netherlands. They also export strawberries to the Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
