The cauliflower has high nutrition value, good taste & dietetic properties. It is the leader among vegetables by taste & nutrient value. It is the real thesaurus of useful substances.  

In the fourth quarter of 2016 the Russian cauliflower & broccoli import market amounted $2,7 million in money terms. In such case the import growth amounted +135% to the fourth quarter of 2015.

China is in advance in global cauliflower & broccoli produce with the share of 45,5%. India follows it with the share of 39,4%. Spain ranks the third & Mexico the fourth. Iran leads among the exporters on the Russian market with the share in import volume of 64%. Rather large volume of broccoli is imported from China, Pakistan & Egypt. Before the embargo the great volume of cauliflower & broccoli were imported from Turkey. In March of 2017 the Russian Government deleted these vegetables from the embargo list, so the Turkish vegetables should appear on the shelves of retail this season. In Russia this crop is planted successfully in the central part of the country & Southern Federal District.

Varieties:

There is a plenty of cauliflower varieties. All of them can be divided into three main types: early, mid-season & late.

  • Early-ripening varieties differ by shorter ripening period & more thickset heads with short leaves. The ripening period lasts 60-100 days. Not only famous old varieties but also new hybrids belong to this type. The most popular varieties of this type are: Snow ball, Express, Dachnitsa, Movir – 74.
  • Mid-season varieties have more long leaves. They form the heads at a temperature higher than 20 0C. The ripening period lasts 100-120 days. The most popular varieties of this group are White Beauty, Flora Blanca.
  • The late types have the same special characteristics as the mid-season types, but their ripening takes more than 130 days. Such varieties as Amerigo F1, Kortes F1 belong to this group.

Egypt ranks the tenth in broccoli & cauliflower producers list with the share of nearly 1%. The share of Egypt on the Russian broccoli & cauliflower import market is much more.
