The Southern growers started the local supplies of strawberries.

The local strawberry season started in the Krasnodar Territory on the first week of May. The bulk delivery of local berries crop are expected in the second half of May. Due to the good weather, the season launched two weeks earlier than last year.  

The retail prices for home berries keep the level of 250-300 rubles per kilo. The local offer is not widespread, the import production still dominates on the local market. Strawberries from the Egypt, Turkey & Greece are still represented. The prices for importing berries run from 200 to 400 rubles per kilo depending on berries quality.  

The strawberry is one of the main fruit & berry crops of the region. Besides the traditional growers state support activities the authorities of the Krasnodar Territory makes efforts to protect the local producers from the unfair competition on the part of foreign players. So the geographical denomination the “Krasnodar Strawberry” will be legally protected.  According to the Administration of the Krasnodar region, documents for registration of the “Krasnodar Strawberry” geographical denomination are sent to the Russian Agency for Patents and Trademarks.
